Pressure Games Toy Blog

Pressure Games will be attending our very first all kids event in just a few weeks and we would love to see you there! Pressure Games will be at Charlotte Harbor Kids Fest Saturday February 29th from 10:00am to 1:00pm at Beach Park in Port Charlotte, FL.

Charlotte Harbor Kids Fest is for children from infancy to 8th grade! This event is FREE and will include prizes & giveaways, character meet & greets, photo-ops, CCSO, FIRE/EMS "Touch a Truck", local Health Services & more!

We will have an awesome play area set up so kids and families can really play and see hide & seek with Countdown in action! We'll also be raffling off one of our demo units to one lucky winner!

When we started Pressure Games in November 2018, one of the first things we did was apply to the Arrow Certification Program. Arrow has a lot of marketing around this program to entice tech startups and future crowdfunders to join and the bar of entry didn’t seem onerous, so we did. After a year of being with it, we have a lot of good to say about it. We haven’t taken advantage of all the benefits, but it's pretty much a no brainer to apply for as there are only benefits and no drawbacks.

But first, of course, it's important to explain what the Arrow Certification Program is.

At Pressure Games, we're very proud of the games we've created for Countdown. Each game is a creative outlet where we push simple features (6 buttons and lights, an accelerometer, text display, etc) to their limits to create something awesome. We currently have 7 games implemented, which is to say that they've made the cut and are part of every update we deliver. They still may be refined over time as we get feedback, but they're solidly designed games that work in Hide & Seek, Hot Potato, Table Co-op and Single Player modes.

For our game development series this week, we'll be taking you through the inception point to the current, very early, implementation of a game to show you what the development process is like. With that, I'd like to introduce you to our newest, still deep in development game, Safe Cracker.

I'm extremely proud to announce the formal filing of our non-provisional patent for Countdown. This is a utility patent covering the game mechanics of a hide & seek toy. If approved, it will provide 20 years of protection for any toy in a similar vein. We are so excited at the thought of joining the ranks of Simon, Bop-IT, Battleship, Rubik's Cube and other staples of play that enjoyed exclusivity and protection on their transformative ideas and the lucrative results innovation can provide.

We are so excited to announce that Countdown has been nominated for "Best Startup Product" for the CES [email protected] Summit. This is the 12th annual awards show held by the [email protected] Initiative, celebrating excellence in children's media and digital toys.

Pressure Games was founded in late 2018 with the mission of creating exciting, active toys for kids. Countdown is our first product which merges technology with classic playground games providing hours of entertainment and face-to-face social time. Speaking of the nomination, Alex Andreae, Founder & CEO, noted, "This nomination is an incredible opportunity to raise awareness of our upcoming product launch and validates everything we've been focused on. We couldn't be more excited to bring Countdown to market in the 2nd quarter next year."

Winners for the KAPi's will be announced on December 18th, with a special awards ceremony to be held at CES. Previous winners across various categories have included Hasbro, Mattel, Vtech, Leapfrog, Amazon, Facebook and more.

We sent a demo unit of Countdown to Everyone's Toy Club (31.7k subscribers) and they responded by creating one of their longest reviews. Ever. In this epic 18 minute review, they cover the game play of Countdown, the awesome social aspects of kids playing with each other, the puzzle-solving fun that expands on the classic hide & seek concept and some of the amazing possibilities of hiding spots with such a small game. And of course, they have a whole lot of fun and laughs in the process.

Pressure Games is happy to announce that we have joined Pledge 1%.

In their own words:

“Pledge 1% is a global movement to create a new normal where giving back is integrated into the DNA of companies of all sizes. Pledge 1% encourages and challenges founders and companies to Pledge 1% of equity, profit, product, and/or time to causes of their choosing. Over 5,000 companies in 100 countries have joined the movement, including Twilio, Glassdoor, Box, Yelp, General Assembly, Docusign, Salesforce, Atlassian, and Techstars.”

Pressure Games is a young start up- but we want to stick a stake in the ground early and build our business based on a mission that doesn’t just serve a profit, but also a conscious company culture, thoughtful product development, inclusive business goals, and active community partnerships for good.

We are so excited to announce that we are shipping test versions of Countdown to reviewers and parents! We're looking for anyone that could make a great tester, whether you have kids or are a kid at heart, to help provide feedback on our innovative hide & seek toy as well as spread the word.

If you are interested in getting Countdown, or know someone would would be a great tester, please sign up for the Countdown Club below. We're selecting a group of early testers every week and would love to have you involved!

Over the last 6 months, we've gone through 4 different iterations of the electronics in Countdown. Each revision has added and removed some features, changed the shape and size of the case we can use, and, most importantly, each revision has progressively been easier to assemble. That last point is critical because each little piece on our boards are currently hand-placed. Each new part to place adds a few minutes to our assembly time and, over the course of dozens of boards, that time adds up (and increases the chances of a mistake).

Below we take a stroll down memory lane and describe the changes over in both functionality and cost of the guts of Countdown.
